Intermittent SQL 7 Login problem

Access 2000 application on client can log-in to SQL server using one of the SQL server logins.

Problem is that from certain clients you can log in using ANY id.

From other clients, the login attempt produces the SQL Server login box.

Any ideas why this might be ?

Client is Win2000.

All help would be appreciated!Have u tried connecting to sql from same box with diff network usernames ?

For the clients where it is the correct behaviour, you do not see the login box at all after starting the application.

However, when you start the application from some clients on the network, then the login box appears ...

I was wondering wheter some clients are getting into sql via integrated security - taking the clients network login credentials by default - & if that fails the sql security login then the Login Box appears

I am running SQL2000 on windows2003. I often connect to the database through
the SQL Server Enterprise Manager on a client machine to administer it. The
strange thing is sometimes I can connect to this database but other times c
annot. THe error message is
"SQL does not exist or not known to be running". I have checked the server s

Anyone knows what's the problem for such intermitent connection? Network pro
b? SQL registration at the client side? ODBC setting?
Someone suggests that it may be because the host and the client are sitting

I just found out that both the host and the client did not join any domain b
ut in the same workgroup. I can successfully search for the sqlserver after
I login to a shared folder from my client terminal. It seems like the client
need to establish the netw
ork path to the host before it can find the sqlserver.
Any way to avoid logging in yet still can locate the sqlserver?

Intergation Services Templates for Visual Studio 2005

We are setting up developer machines with Visual Studio 2005 and SQL SERVER 2005 Client tools. My question is how do I get the templates for Integration Services into Visual Studio 2005 without installing BIDS?

You cannot do this. The Visual Studio IDE hosts packages, one of which is the SSIS designer for example. The only way to install that package is to install the Workstation components for SSIS from SQL Server Setup.

If you do not already have the VS IDE it is included as part of this setup. If you installed SQL first, then would you expect to be able to install the C# or VB package without running the full Visual Studio setup? The packages are slightly different, but the logic is the same.

There are also package templates, but I don't think that is what you mean (http://wiki.sqlis.com/default.aspx/SQLISWiki/PackageTemplates.html)

Intellectual Property question

I have been asked to prepare a feasibility study for an upgrade to a
VB app that uses a SQL server db.

The application is thin client, with about 100 sites connecting via
terminal services. 99% of the processing and business logic is done
using stored procedures.

The application is a highly configured version of an off-the-shelf
product.

The company would like me to quote for redesigning the front end, but
for this to interface to the existing db structure. However, the
original developer regards the database structure, particularly the
stored procedures, as her intellectual property.

Anyone have any idea how I (and the company who have asked me to do
the work) stand legally? Obviously I don't want to get lawyers
involved unless absolutely necessary (for example, if we clearly don't
have a leg to stand on, then there's no point in paying some shyster
300 an hour to tell me what I already know.)

What does the contract with the original developer say? Usually you would
expect a software development contract to spell out the IP rights. In my
experience, in the UK, the rights are typically left with the company
developing the software unless the client company requires otherwise.

I concur. When I do similar work my contracts ALWAYS state the
obvious...either that all resultant work is the property of the customer or
that the software is provided with license TO the customer.

My advice to you would be to higher that 'shyster' to review the contracts,
before you or your customer end up in a lawsuit.

Integration Services and VS 2005 Pro

My client machine has VS Studio 2005 Professional installed. My server has SQL Server 2005 Enterprise with BIDS installed. I would prefer to do my task development on my client instead of the server. How do I get the Integration Services projects on my installation of VS 2005? I went so far as installing SQL Express and BIDS on my local machine, but the only Business Development projects I get are Report Server. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You need to get SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on your local machine. SSIS isn't included in Express edition.
