Intermittent data source problem - trying to access a deleted data source

Hello
I am using Reporting Services within Visual Studio .Net 2003, connecting to
a SQL Server 2000 database.
I am having an intermittent problem with a report misbehaving. The report
has 5 subreports, all of which work fine on their own (for the most part).
The problem is that, sometimes, when I run the main report I get the
following error:-
"An error occurred while executing the subreport ¡OppsHotProspects¢: An
error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot create a connection to data source 'GuessDB'."
This error sometimes only appears for one report, sometimes for all. The
issue is that the 'GuessDB' data source is no longer used; in its place the
'GuessDBLive' data source is now used. I have removed the 'GuessDB' data
source.
When I run each subreport by itself they run fine, and the data source used
in both the Data tab and the Preview tab is the correct one. One
subreport, however, intermittently misbehaves and gives the same error on
its own.
I am very confused as to why this is happening. Presumably something in
each subreport is referencing the deleted data source, but I can't figure
it out. The deleted one should not be getting used at all.
I'd appreciate any help!

DeniseFor anyone else having the same problem, I think I've found the answer.
Out of sheer frustration, I examined the code on each report, and on one
there was a chunk of code which referenced the obsolete data source. I've
no idea why this code remained on one report and not the others, but it
did. I removed the offending code, and the problem (touch wood!) has been
resolved.

Intergation Services Templates for Visual Studio 2005

We are setting up developer machines with Visual Studio 2005 and SQL SERVER 2005 Client tools. My question is how do I get the templates for Integration Services into Visual Studio 2005 without installing BIDS?

You cannot do this. The Visual Studio IDE hosts packages, one of which is the SSIS designer for example. The only way to install that package is to install the Workstation components for SSIS from SQL Server Setup.

If you do not already have the VS IDE it is included as part of this setup. If you installed SQL first, then would you expect to be able to install the C# or VB package without running the full Visual Studio setup? The packages are slightly different, but the logic is the same.

There are also package templates, but I don't think that is what you mean (http://wiki.sqlis.com/default.aspx/SQLISWiki/PackageTemplates.html)

Interesting Challenge..

I am making a report in Visual Studio..Now my question is,is there anyway that i can add a tab control for my rdl?Hope to here from anyone out there with a know how..Thanks guys!!

Are you saying that you want your report that is rendered in HTML to have a tab control on it? Or are you asking if you can design the report page just like an HTML page, and drop all sorts of components on to it?

uhm..my reports were being exported in HTML,Excel and PDF..But i dont really know if it is possible to add a tab control to an rdl.I am trying to add a tab control in the COM Components,but i cannot see a tab control for it.

just right click on the report in solution explorer and 'view code' - it should open up a new tab with just the raw xml as text|||

|||The RDL is being rendered by the ReportView control and thus can't contain any WinForm or WebForm components. You may be able to simulate what you are wanting to do by using the hidden properties of items such as rectangles. For a wild example of what can be accomplished, take a look at the Etch A Sketch built by Brian Welcher http://blogs.msdn.com/bwelcker/archive/2005/10/29/486534.aspx

I just cant download the source.And as for what you are saying,i had tried some tricks like that,but it seems that it is not very effective.One reason is that,if one sheet in any case is too long,then it will push my custom tab(compose of textboxes with navigation to subreports) to go beneaththe page which not supposed to be.But there is no way that you can make it fixed location right.But as what u said that i cannot add a winform,i may agree to that,thanks.But if you still had any other idea,i would be very greatful to hear that.Thank you so much..And by the way for you too see what i had done,i will send one of my form.If you just want to take a look..

Why do you need to do it this way? You could make 2 seperate reports, embed them in a HTML page and use some javascript to select different divs which changes between the reports... You also don't have to worry about printing issues/exporting with overlaid items...etc. You could even get fancy with some AJAX if you wanted! I dunno, if you can present a clear reason behind why you want to do it that way... But I kind of see it as:

Create tabs on a report...user might not view other tabs = all data must be loaded on report execution = longer load time = unhappy user Sad

Anyways, I'd still be interested if you get it working if you do decide to pursue that path!

Thanks Salvo0194, but honestly speaking,i am not familiar in User Interface because we are in a three - tier framework.And that is what they want me do to.But based on my research,there really is no way that i can try to put a tab control in a rdl.And based as what you had said,i think also that it could only be the best way to do the trick.Thank you so much.But still i am waiting for some other comments that will benefit all of us for certain issues..hehe.. By the way,thanks for reminding,no programmer wants a user to be ..hehe.. o_O

but I built one just for you with 'tabs' that work the way I believe you want them. The tab body is a rectangle and the tab tops are text boxes. The tab tops link back to the same report with a parameter set that handles the visibility.

Larry thanx for the code.Funny we almost had the similar trick,but yours is nicer..hehe..uhm that finished it up..Maybe thats the only thing that we can do.But there only is one issue,uhm i dont know if you had just forgotten it,or what,but by th way,the rectangles are overlapping and it will give the user a warning,which is not good,uhm..but still thanks for that reply.It clears up thing now.But if still,you have a solution about overlapping,it is still greatly accepted(hehe..too much of me)..but maybe it would also be useful to others.Thank You o_O

Integration with Team Foundation Server

Hi Everyone.
Does Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) integrate with the Team Foundation Server? I've read that BIDS is based on VS.NET, but it's a different client than standard VS.NET.
Can we setup a Team Foundation Project and integrate the work item lists, check in policies, etc, with BIDS?

RobBIDS is actually just a copy of the VS IDE so in theory it should work. But it does not come with the Team Foundation Project, only the BI projects. YOu can upgrade BIDS to a full copy of VS by just installing over the top, this will keep the BI projects. Or you can just install the BI projects into a VS installation.

Management Studio uses VS technology and so will not automatically work with TS.|||I have this working without problem, though my understanding was that the latest patch set for TFS included support for the full set of database projects in VSTS.

Integration Services won't install

I am installing Visual Studio 2005 Professional on Windows XP.

I have finished installing Visual Studio 2005 Professional along with Service Pack 1. Now I am installing the Developer version of SQL 2005 that comes with Visual Studio 2005 Professional .

During the installation of SQL Server 2005, I got the following error during
the integration services installation portion:

Failed to install and configure assemblies: c:\program files\microsoft sql
server\90\dts\tasks\microsoft.sqlserver.msmqtask.d ll in the COM+ catalog.
Error -2146233087

Error message: unknown error 0x80131501
Error description: You must have administrative credentials to perform this
task.

I'm logged into Windows as Administrator.

This machine did previously have VS 2005 Standard and SQL 2005 Standard loaded. The software was RTM software as provided by Microsoft at their launch event. I did uninstall both products before attempting the upgrade.

Any help would be much appreciated.

This is an issue when Microsoft.SqlServer.MSMQTask is left behind in COM+ catalog. You can workaround it by:

1. Open Administrative Tools\Component Services

2. Go to Component Services\Computers\My Computer\COM+ Applications

3. Delete Microsoft.SqlServer.MSMQTask

Integration Services missing from Management Studio

I have installed SQL Server 2005. I am able to create and edit
Integration services packages from VS but the Management Studio does
not show a folder for Integration Services so I can manage the
packages from within the Management Studio itself. From what I can
tell from the documentation, I should be able to see and manage them
from within Management Studio. What am I missing?

To work with SSIS you need to use Business Intelligence Development
Studio, that is VS. There is not much you can do with SSIS from Mgmt
Studio.

Integration Services Login

How do I add myself into the Integration Services? so I can use SQL Server
Management Studio to log in Integration Services
First I tried loggin into the SQL Server 2005 itself using 'sa', add my NT
login as a login ie 'SomeGroup\SomeloginName', open the properties for the N
T
Login name & assign all roles including sysadmin to the name.
Then, go back to SQL Server Management Studio to connect to Integration
Services, it still say access deny

From your descriptions, I understood you are not able to connect SSIS with
the account even you have assigned SA privilege. If I have misunderstood
your concern, please feel free to point it out.
First of all, please use SQL Server Configuration Manager to make sure you
have started SQL Server Intergration Services.
Secondly, have you tried use both Windows Authentication and SQL
Authentication to login the SSIS?
Thirdly, is it possible for you to show us some screen shot?

account that was used to install the SQL Server but not other NT accounts.
2. I can not switch over to use the SQL Authentication option when I log
into Integration Services because it is grayed out. However, I do have the

I've just fixed this problem myself. This probably isn't the proper fix,
but I found that adding the user to the local machine's (ie the SQL Server's
local group) administrators group gave me the rights to log on.
This is only a quick fix, but the issue must be that whatever user you want
to access integrations services must need certain levels of access to the
OS, most likely the ability to start and stop services.
Its a starting point anyway!

Have you tried the 'work offline' option in SSIS menu. That option will prevent SSIS to validate connections in the package at design time. I am not sure if that is the source of your problem; bt you can try it.|||

That's weird. I have half of that hardware and same VS version and run with no problem. Do you get the same behavior even when you create a new project/package? Check the task manager activity as well.

Yes, I can create a new project and when I try to
add a new connection it takes 2 minutes to open
the first dialogbox ...
TaskManager is very quiet ...

Also when I run a package on my pc, it takes about
this 2 minutes to begin running the package.
When I run it on the server, the package finishes in 30 seconds.

|||This could also just be caused by network configurations when trying to do the connection discovery.|||

1.For integration service designer You should also install SQL 2005 SP1 and

the SQL2005 hotfix 2153.

2.another tip I found in the newsgroups was :

In internet explorer go to Tools-> options-> advanced

Uncheck the tickbox "check for publisher's certificate revocation"

(tnx to Nico Verheire)

3.When the designer is extremely slow in complex data flows, you have to break up the package in severaldataflows and use raw files to transfer data from one data flow to the other. See article <http://www.sqljunkies.com/WebLog/reckless/archive/2006/05/01/ssis_largedataflows.aspx>

Do you have the SSIS service running? That can sometimes speed things up because it caches information about tasks and components.

Other than that - its more likely this can be attributed to hardware or network issues. I suppose it could be a million and one things.

Integration Services and VS 2005 Pro

My client machine has VS Studio 2005 Professional installed. My server has SQL Server 2005 Enterprise with BIDS installed. I would prefer to do my task development on my client instead of the server. How do I get the Integration Services projects on my installation of VS 2005? I went so far as installing SQL Express and BIDS on my local machine, but the only Business Development projects I get are Report Server. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You need to get SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on your local machine. SSIS isn't included in Express edition.

I have a Visual Studio 2005 professional and Sql Server 2005 Express.

I download the 'Books on line for Sql Server' but when call help in VB interface or in

Management Sql Express the message appear:

Integrated help is not available ....

1. What version of Books Online did you download? The December 2005 or April 2006 version?

2. In what order did you install the components (VS, Express, Books Online).

3. Did you install Express from the VS installation or did you download SQL Express separately?

1. The version is December 2005 (SqlServer2K5_BOL_Dec2005.msi)

2. I install in order: VS, Express, Books Online.

3. Begin, I install Sql Express include in VS, but do not language brazilian portuguese. I remove this and install Sql Express spk1 (download).

It may be some issue between the December BOL and SQL Express SP1. WIll you please download the April version of BOL from here: (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=be6a2c5d-00df-4220-b133-29c1e0b6585f&DisplayLang=en and see if you have the same problem?

Integrating Management Studio With Subversion or CVS

Hello,
I'm wondering if anybody knows whether it's possible to use Subversion or
CVS with Management Studio instead of SourceSafe? We use CVS and Subversion
in our development house and now that Management Studio works with
SourceSafe, I'm wondering if there are any plugins available to make it work
with Subversion or CVS?
I'd really appreciate anyones help on this. If you've already done it,
please post directions on how to set it up or point me to somewhere on the
web that explains it.

After a couple of hours of searching the web, I finally started getting a
clue. Looks like all I needed to do was find a SCC capable plugin for
Subversion and CVS. I'm still having difficulties binding solutions to a
repository, but at least I'm now able to try.
