interesting problem..related to selection criteria..

Have report where the user should be able to enter some selection critera to EXCLUDE from the result set displayed.

I deally Iwould liek to include it in the sql parameters to avoid retunring a larger then necessary result set, but Couldn't I also use it inthe filter criteria?

Has anyone done anything like this.

ie: a drop down box where people could add exclusions.

ie: Apples, Oranges

would be excluded from the result list.

So If I entered Apples, Oranges

the resultset would eclude these from the returned dataset.

I realize using a multi param box is fruitless. WOndering if there is another way to do this

Why wouldn't multi-param work?

Select something from sometable where (@.multiparam is null or fruit not in (@.multiparam))

Does this look ok?

cheers,

Andrew

Intellisense in Views corrupts SQL Syntax

When selecting "Design mode" from "Views", the syntax I enter is
automatically changed on-the-fly and corrupts the syntax.
For example from pubs:
SELECT TOP 100 PERCENT *
FROM dbo.authors a INNER JOIN
dbo.publishers p ON a.city = p.city
ORDER BY a.au_lname DESC
Problems:
1. I can't remove "TOP 100 PERCENT" which is valid SQL.
2. "a INNER JOIN" should be "AS a INNER JOIN"
So, how can I code valid SQL without the code being changed?
Sparky
and the phrase "a INNER JOIN" should be:
"AS a INNER JOIN"which would be valid
EM has a lot of strange things in the query builder. I recommend developing your views in Query
Analyzer. As for TOP, you can't have ORDER BY without TOP in a view. A view is supposed to behave as
a table and a table is not ordered. A view allow ORDER BY if you have TOP as this will influence
which rows are returned, the ordering is possibly still not guaranteed. You might want to look at

|||The problem arises when I use Visual Studio 2003's Server Explorer tool to
explore a selected "View" from the sqlserver's treeview. I was not using EM
or QA to edit the view.
Tibor: Thnaks sooo much for the reply - saw your web site -- Great!

Integrity Checks job causing SQL 7 database to enter single-user mode

Hi,
I've encountered with very strange problem on this issue on one of my my SQL 7 Servers.
The integrity checks job on the database failed, and caused the database to enter the single user mode, thus preventing applications to access the database. I had to manually switch the database to normal mode to repair the problem.
Right now, every time i try to run the integrity checks job, it fails and causes the database to enter the single user mode again.
Any ideas how to solve the problem?
Thanks in advance,
BarakThis looks like a known issue. Have you seen this?
