Intermittant Connection Errors

I have a Merge-Pull subscription setup between two SQL 2005 databases. While watching the status messages display for the subscription, I am constantly seeing the following message being displayed:

"The merge process could not connect to the Publisher '{server}:{database}'. Check to ensure that the server is running."

It will display for anywhere between 15 seconds to a few minutes, then it will display the standard "Waiting 60 seconds..." message which is what I'm used to seeing when all is working well.

There doesn't seem to be any network issues that I can identify. I ran a quick script to run ping continuously against the publisher server and verified that the server was constantly "pingable", even when the above message was displayed (which, by the way, was being displayed by using SSMS while connected to the publisher).

Does anyone know what would cause this message to appear all the time - for extended amounts of time, with occasional glimpses of a non-error status?

It's a wild guess but failing to login / authenticate ?|||I thought of that but am not sure that it applies. The reason being that I can leave the subscription/synchronization status window open in SSMS and it will toggle back and forth (seemingly randomly over time) between the message I mentioned above and some type of valid message.|||What about Timeouts (Connection or Query)? I have seen similar issues in Web Sync. If the amount of data changed since the last sync operation then I have experienced Timeouts while the sync is initialized. Not exactly as you describe but another parameter worth checking.

I'm not sure what the issue was but it seems to have resolved itself - at least for the time being. If it happens again, I'll be looking for more answers :-)

Thanks for everyone's help.

|||I have this problem as well. It works sometimes and then fails with this error message which leads me to believe it isn't a login problem. I'm still new to replication so I could be wrong, but I think once I get this message, replication is broken and requires someone to intervene to reinitialize. Has anyone figured out what is going on?

Interactive sort not working if sub report

Hi,
I am having an issue that when a sub report that contains fields that
are setup to do interactive sort only work if they are displayed as the
parent report. If they are included as a sub report when trying to do
a sort the page just posts back but comes back unsorted.
Is there a work around for this or is it just not possible on SSRS
2005?
Please Help!

I had the same problem with sorting in a sub report, I then changed my
report to not contain a sub report, however I found that when you group
your data in a table using a "Group On" expression, sorting does not
work either. Sorting only appears to work on non-grouped data fields
in a table and not in a sub report.

Interactive Sort (problem/bug)

Hi

Header image (setup as external) disappear when interactive sort is used (interactive sort is set in the body of the report), works fine if the image is embedded.

any help is appreciated.

Thank you

Veneto

This is a known issue. The fix is available in a hotfix for RS 2005 SP1, and will also be included in the next service pack.|||Thank you for replying.

Integrity Check Fails

I setup a DB Maint, Plan for several databases however,
the Integrity Check job fails for a few of my databases.
The error is "Repair statement not processed. Database
needs to be in single user mode."
Any thoughts on why this is happening?
Thanks,
DonPretty much what it says. What version and service pack of SQL Server? Note that you can't put
master in single user mode. I recommend that you remove that darn option to "attempt to repair minor
problems". :-)

2000 service pack 3. I realize that I could uncheck the
repair but that defeats the purpose if there is a problem
with the database. In addition, MS recommends that the
repair option be checked.
Is there any work around to this issue of putting the DB
in single user mode?
Thanks,
Don

Tibor mentioned a restriction on master. In addition, if a database has any
open connections it cannot be changed to single user mode unless you use the
WITH ROLLBACK clauses.
ALTER DATABASE mydatabase
SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
This breaks all unqualified connections and switches to single user mode.
(Much easier than the old method of writing a looping procedure to KILL
connections until they were finally all gone.)

some background thing try to repair the database if I run into a problem with it. I want to be
there, do a log backup first, think, etc etc etc.
Anyhow, master cannot be in single user mode, if this is the one which is causing your problem, then
you have to remove it from the plan, or don't do background repair.

Integration with Sharepoint Server 2007 - Second instance of servi

Ok, I have a SQL 2005 sp2 server running reporting service on one server, and
Sharepoint Portal 2007 on another server. As I have reports setup and want
to continue using reports manager, I installed a second instance of Report
services on my SQL server. I installed Portal server on the SQL server (as
front end server) and it appears as a member of the Sharepoint farm. I setup
a new database using the Reporting services Config wizard in integrated mode.
I am using a domain user for the windows and web service accounts.
On the sql server when browsing to the virtual directory for the reports
server "http://servername/reportserver" I get the following error:
"The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report
server log files for more information. (rsServerConfigurationError) Get
Online Help "
from other network locations, I get a request for authentication that always
fails.
The log file contains the following:

InterHealth N.I.I made one step forward. I found I had a duplicate SPN which was preventing
a log in to the Reportserver web site. So I can now browse to the
http://machinename/reportserver site. I am, however still not able to set
the default settings on the Sharepoint Portal side. I may need to move this
to a sharepoint group.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Integrating MSDE 2000 with VB Applications

Hi,
I have VB 6.0 application using MSDE 2000.
I created setup file using Package & Deployment Wizard.
I have included "SQL Server Desktop Engine Merge Modules" and
"sqlredis.exe".
However, when I try to test it on another computer, I get following error.
DBNETLIB[ConnectionOpen(Connect()).] SQL Server does not exists or access is
denied.
clicking OK comes up with
Runtime error -2147467259 (80004005)
Automation Error
Unspecified error.
What am I missing?
Any Idea? Let me know if further info needed.
