Integrating SSRS with SAP

Hi ,

I can see that there is an adapter description for SAP is available [although commented] in rsreportserver.config.

Can anybody suggest what i need to followup to call the SAP interfaces[i alreday have RFC and SAP.NET connector avialable with me] and i am calling the SAP interface thru custom assembly.

If the adapter is available can anybody suggest some how can i activate the adapter to call the SAP interfaces directly from SSRS and how the credentila flows from SSRS to SAP.

Have you reviewed the SAP topic in BOL?|||

Teo,

Thansk for the reply.BOL was pointing to the netweaverBI sys but for our case the netweaver frx was not inplace...however i found the link http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms141761.aspx and it was mentined that it came as a separate download.

The Microsoft .NET Data Provider for mySAP Business Suite is not included in SQL Server 2005, you must download it from http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/.

thanks again for the reply though.

Integrating SSRS with existing .NET 2.0 website issues

I am actively trying to prototype / evaluate SSRS as our reporting solution.
Makes sense, we're completely MS-based, with a SQL 2005 db server and an IIS
6 / Win2003 web server, and custom .NET 2.0 web application.
So, I'm struggling to figure out why it appears to be so difficult to
integrate SSRS. In our .NET web app, of course, we are using forms-based
authentication and SSL. We are also using the membership provider of 2.0
framework.
As so it happens, we are also using a few 3rd party custom classes which
are, of course, installed, in the BIN directory of our .NET web app.
So, now, I've installed SSRS on the same web server hosting our web app.
I've used the SSRS configuration manager admin tool to change the location
of the virtual directories from the default website to our custom web app.
The immediate problem I'm noticing is that I'm unable to get the Report
Manager web interface to work. When I attempt to navigate to our website
and the Reports virdir (http:\\www.[ourwebsitename].com\Reports), I get a
.NET error (listed below).
From what I can tell, the error is complaining it can't find / load one of
our custom 3rd party objects... which is installed in our website's BIN
directory. But, if I'm reading this right, it seems like the Reports
virtual dir has its own BIN directory, and seems to be picking up its own
application root.
This HAS to be a common scenario... how do I solve this?

<-->Hello Noreen,
I would like to know whether you put the Report manager and Report Server
under your custom web application.
That means you have your customer application as the parent of the Report
manager.
Since Report manager and Report Server are also .NET web application, they
have their own BIN folder and web.config file. So, we do not suggest you to
put the report server under your customer web application.
My suggestion is:
1. Create a new web site in IIS and put your Reporting Services under that
web site.
2. Or you could put the custom application as a sub-site for the default
web site and put the reporting services directly under the default web site.
3. You could also condsider the Report Viewer control in your web
application so that you could refer the report in your web application.
Hope the information will be helpful.
Sincerely,
Wei Lu

So, again, let me try to zero in on what is the best option here. We have a
custom web site, all ASP.NET 2.0; it is a protected website in that we
require users to login which is all handled using forms-based authentication
and the membership framework of .NET.
So, lets say our nifty .NET custom-developed website was
www.mycustomweb.com
It sounds like our best option is to create a custom web site, then, just
for SSRS, such as
"reports.mycustomweb.com"
But now that's a separate website (by definition!). I'm not aware of how to
make forms-based authentication work across both sites. Remember, the user
has been authenticated on www.mycustomweb.com... and only authenticated
users should get reports...
There must be a Microsoft use-case scenario for this... it has to be all too
common. Can you provide me w/ any references or links to documentation on
how to take care of this situation?
Thanks again,
-- Margo|||Hello Margo,
Thanks for the update.
Reporting Services supported Form Authentication but you need to do some
code work to enable it.
The Reporting Sevices need the Windows authentication so you must
impersonate a windows user in your code.

Integrating SSIS with IBM's Tivoli

Hi,

I have a requirement, where I have to integrate SSIS with IBM's Tivoli for scheduling of SSIS packages. Currently we are doing it using SQL sever Job Agent.

Do any one have Document or link or references, which I can refer to to acheive the above mentioned requirement?

Thanks

Sid

A better resource for you would be Tivoli documentation which explains how to schedule an executable using Tivoli. Then you can schedule DTExec.exe to execute your packages.

Hi

We had a serious issue that has to be closed very soon.

I want to integrate SQL Reporting services with wss 3.0 and not MOSS 2007

I find many articles that shows integration of SQL reporting services 2005 with MOSS.

If i do the similar steps i dont find the Reporting Services section in Application Management of wss central administration.

Yes i got the solution for this

We need to Activate the Reporting services in the Central Administration this can be done by the following steps

1. Go to Site settings

2.In the Site collection Administration navigate to Site collection Features

3. Enable the Settings for Reporting Sevices

This will dispay the Reporting Section in the Application Management of Central Administration

Hope this will be help full.

And also i am planning to provide complete steps for integration in Next Article

Integrating SQL Server 2005 with SP1

I have the SQL Server 2005 Developer DVD and i download the SP1

how can i integrate the Service Pack with the DVD content (Of cource after extracting on my HD) ?

This comes up from time to time and the best response I've seen so far is from Euan's blog. The short answer is no, it is not supported on the Developer SKU (only with the Express SKUs)

Integrating SQL RS 2005 into our apps

Microsoft Support

here is our scenario

We are an ISV that develops software products for our customers. We have two different flavors of Customers (Enterprise and Standard..) Ya, just like Microsoft

We would like to take SQL RS 2005 and integrate it within our apps

For our standard customers, we were thinking of packaging our canned reports into SQL 2005 Express Advanced versions

For our Enterprise customers, we were thinking of using the SQl 2005 Standard or Enterprise Reporting services.

As I was going down this path and making recommendations, I got an error trying to make this architecture work for us

Have SQL 2005 Report Server running on (Express- Advanced) talk to a SQL Express Catalog database on another box.

It appears that SQL 2005 Express can only work with local catalog database and local data sources. This is turning out to be a dampener to our migration to this server based reporting product for our low end customers.

Can you guys think of a workaround ? Our customer databases are going to be in SQL 2000 and it is going to be that way for a long time to come.. Meanwhile, we also want to adopt SQL2005 Reporting Services and move from Local reporting to Server based reporting.

Thoughts or ideas on helping me sell SQL 2005 Rs to folks here ?

Hi,

I am not from MS Support, but I think, that I am also allowed to answer? :-)

SQL Express wAF will only be allowed to access the local data storage - that is correct. You will be able to evaluate this in the feature comparison at www.microsoft.com/sql.

Why do you want a SQL Express for your Standard Users while connecting to another box?

Will this be the central data storage for your application? While couldn′t this be the Reporting Server also?

As another alternative you could use the reportviewer-control in your application.

Cheers,
Markus

Integrating RS 2005 Reports with Web Applications

Hi All
M a newbie in RS 2005 ..
I need to integrate my RS 2005 Reports into the web applications ...
say ASP.NET or made using C# ...
without using the web-services ...
there's a way using URL access and one more using Visual Basic 2005 ...
All my queries are stored as stored procedure and need to have my own
interface where from the user can see the report for the actions which
one takes ..
Please help...
Regards
Manu GuptaURL access to reports is well documented in the SQL Server books online.
You can download here:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/downloads/books.mspx
in case you don't already have SQL 2005 installed somewhere.
URL access will work no matter what your development environment or language
is. Obviously I'd recomend using VisualStudio.NET 2005. The choice of C#,
VB.NET or any of the other .NET language providers makes no difference at
all.

integrates wtih RS.
URL access will work but in your case what you should be looking at are the
new controls that come with VS 2005. The controls come in two flavors:
winform and webform. They will drastically reduce your integration time.
They are built using web services but that would be transparent to you.

Integrating Reports with ASP page

HI,

I've created reports using VS2003 n sqlserver 2000.Now I need to view these reports from ASP page.Can anybody tell me how to integrate it with ASP .Can I use report viewer control?Thanks in advance.

May

May,

I have used iFrames in the past to drop an ASPX page inside an ASP. It is messy to have these two interact, but sometimes you are stuck with it.

If you want a seemless iFrame you can use the code below inside your ASP page:

<iframe src="test.aspx"framespacing="0" border="0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

You may also wish to set these:width="100%"marginheight="0"marginwidth="0"height="500" scrolling="yes"

As far as browser compatibility goes, beware of the scrollbar and how different browsers render scrollbars.

More reference: iFrame W3c spec

Integrating Reports into existing ASP.NET site/app...

We have been creating reports using SSRS but would like our users to request
reports through a custom interface NOT the standard SSRS interface. So as
far as I know there are 3 ways of presenting SSRS reports to users:
1) Report Manager
2) Reports through URL
3) SSRS Web Services
1 and 2 are simple, but require that the user experience SSRS look and feel,
including all navigation whereas the Web Services can be used to allow the
user to interact with reports that will have the same look and feel as the
site for which they are being integrated.
Is this a fair assessment? What in your opinion is the best way to integrate
SSRS reports into a site so the user will get to pick report params via web
controls custom to the site but then view the report with the zooming,
paging and exporting
that you get free with Report Manager?
**Note I have looked at and got to run the
Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.ReportViewer, and maybe this is the best
way. But can this be used when presenting the user with an alternative way
of providing parameters?
Thanks all in advance.I am using ReportViewer component in my current asp.net web site. You can
find this component in x:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL
Server\MSSQL\Reporting Services\Samples\Applications\ReportViewer. There is
c# and vb.net code available. You need to compile it first. And this link is
also helped me much at the begining;
http://www.odetocode.com/Articles/128.aspx (dont forget to read part two)
Hope this helps,

Integrating Reporting Services with My Own Front End?

Greetings!
Okay, kind of a newbie question here. Maybe you more experienced folks can
help. I've got RS up & running okay. I'm hoping you can lead me to info
and/or examples of using Reporting Services, but integrating it into my own
ASP.NET front end pages. The Reporting Services-supplied front end is very
nice, but the look & feel is not consistent with our other pages.
Thanks in advance,
Joel Koblich
www.3cms.orgThere are several ways to integrate your own front end. The easiest way is
to use URL integration. The advantage of this is that you can easily call
any report passing it parameters. If you want to hide parameters from your
user then this gets to be dicey. Also, you get full functionality with URL
integration (drill down, drill through). You can also use web services. You
render a stream and do with it as you will. However, you have to handle some
of the features yourself that come for free with URL integration. That being
the case, why would someone want to use web services. A big reason could be
that the application is internet facing and the report server is being the
firewall. URL integration will not work for this scenario.
With RS 2005 (release date November) and Widbey (Visual Studio 2005, same
release date) you can use the new web and winform controls. These will make
integrating with RS reports much easier. If you want you can not even have a
report server, you can operate in local mode and give the control the report
and the dataset(s) and away it goes. However, you do lose functionality in
local mode. Not all rendering options are available, you don't have caching,
subscriptions etc. Having a server in the picture does provide value, but,
depending on your circumstances the new controls operating in local mode
might be all you need (the controls are distributed with VS). These controls
are available with the latest public beta of Widbey.
One thing to keep in mind when rolling your own is deciding on security.
Depending on what you are doing you might need to implement forms based
security.

Do you know if the VS 2005 web control will use SOAP or URL when it is
operating in "Remote" mode? I have been trying to determine if VS2005/SQL2005
will solve this issue for us, over SSRS 2000.
Thanks,

Integrating Reporting services into java

I am facing a lot of problems integrating the reporting services into the java application using url access.If any body has sucessfully implemented this please provide me with the code or point me to the resources.

Thanks in advance

I am also intersted in knowing this. r u making web service call to report server ?

prashant

No i am trying to use the URL access through a java servlet.The report is displayed but on page load ,

javascript error 'RSClientController is undefined' is thrown.After that if i click on any other button or select box the javascript error are thrown.Also the reporting server is not returning any cookies when a request is made.Can any one help please

Integrating Reporting Services 2005 in a custom application

I created in VS2005 a report with one parameter and I placed it into a folder
under Reporting Services and I can run it through RS WEB interface.
Now I want to run that report from a custom application (VB.NET 2005). I
know how to open that report in a browser in HTML (using the URL and passing
the parameter) but I want to open that report in PDF instead. I added RS as a
WEB Service to my application but how I am identifying the report and how I
pass the parameter and then how I ask for the PDF file this is what I don't
know. For simplicity let's assume the report name is Report1 and it is placed
in folder Folder1 and the requested parameter is Parameter1. Could someone
let me know how I am rendering that report and how I open the PDF file?
The second question would be about the credentials. I would prefer not
opening ReportingServices WEB server to anonymous access. But the application
I use to open a report is connecting remotely and I cannot use VPN to make it
log into the domain. What I would look for is if I can pass programmatically
the credentials for a pre-defined account (on WEB server). I saw that the
ReportingService object has a Credentials property and I found out how to
send the default credentials (System.NET.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials)
but as I said that workstation is outside my domain and I cannot use its
credentials.
I also have a third question somehow less important. I noticed a huge
difference between the preview in VS2005 and the one on WEB. I know that
there are 2 different previewers but I am not sure if I am not doing
something wrong. Strangely the PDF image looks much more accurate (compared
with VS2005 preview) than the HTML image obtained after deploying the report
on WEB.
Thanks anticipated for any hint.On Dec 2, 6:32 pm, Adrian <abcd...@.noemail.nospam> wrote:

This code should help. It's written in C#.NET 2005. Converting it to
VB.NET 2005 shouldn't be very difficult. You will be able to pass the
PDF document to a user outside the domain and/or combine this process
with a report viewer control to allow a user outside the domain to
view it and have it available as a PDF download. 'SSRSExecutionSvc'
below is what I called the web reference to: http://ServerX/reportserver/reportexecution2005.asmx
Byte[] result = null;
String strReportPath = "", strFormat = "", strDeviceInfo ="", strEncoding = "",
strMimeType = "", strExt = "", strSessionId = "",
strInvoicePath = "";
String strHistoryID = null;
String[] strStreamIDs = null;
SSRSExecutionSvc.ReportExecutionService rs = new
SSRSExecutionSvc.ReportExecutionService();
//Below user must have, at a minimum, Browser rights in
the Report Manager
rs.Credentials = new
System.Net.NetworkCredential("UserName", "Password", "DomainName");
rs.Url = "http://ServerX/reportserver/
ReportExecution2005.asmx";
// Render arguments
strReportPath = "/Folder1/Report1";
strFormat = "PDF";
strDeviceInfo = @."<DeviceInfo><Toolbar>False</Toolbar></
DeviceInfo>";
// Prepare report parameter.
SSRSExecutionSvc.ParameterValue[] parameters = new
SSRSExecutionSvc.ParameterValue[1];
parameters[0] = new SSRSExecutionSvc.ParameterValue();
parameters[0].Name = "Parameter1";
parameters[0].Value = OrderID.ToString();
SSRSExecutionSvc.Warning[] warnings = null;
SSRSExecutionSvc.ExecutionInfo execInfo = new
SSRSExecutionSvc.ExecutionInfo();
SSRSExecutionSvc.ExecutionHeader execHeader = new
SSRSExecutionSvc.ExecutionHeader();
rs.ExecutionHeaderValue = execHeader;
execInfo = rs.LoadReport(strReportPath, strHistoryID);
rs.SetExecutionParameters(parameters, "en-us");
strSessionId = rs.ExecutionHeaderValue.ExecutionID;
try
{
result = rs.Render(strFormat, strDeviceInfo, out
strExt, out strEncoding, out strMimeType, out warnings, out
strStreamIDs);
execInfo = rs.GetExecutionInfo();
}
catch (SoapException SoapEx)
{
return SoapEx.Detail.OuterXml.ToString();
}
// Write the Contents of the Invoice to a PDF Document.
try
{
FileStream stream = File.Create(("C:\\Report1.pdf"),
result.Length);
stream.Write(result, 0, result.Length);
stream.Close();
}
catch (Exception Ex)
{
return Ex.Message;
}
Hope this helps.

Sr. Software Consultant|||Hi,
Not sure why you want to create a custom app because if your
requirement is only to render the report in pdf then adding
"&rc:format=PDF" to the url should do the trick for you.
Anyways, if you want to use the web service , here is an msdn article
for consuming the RS web service.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa179578(SQL.80).aspx
With regards to credentials, if you are hosting RS on a web facing
server , you have a couple of choices - windows authentication or
forms authentication . Depending on your network set up and because of
the way RS security works, windows integrated authentication can get
very tricky .This article may give you an an insight
http://www.odetocode.com/Articles/216.aspx
If you want to use forms authentication, download the SQL Server 2005
samples and that has an example of how to integrate forms
authentication into your app. You can download the sample from here
http://codeplex.com/SqlServerSamples
With regards to your third question , "Strangely the PDF image looks
much more accurate (compared with VS2005 preview) than the HTML image
obtained after deploying the report on WEB. " . I am not sure why you
are comparing the pdf to an image . The pdf being generated by studio
and the one generated through the web interface should be alike.
Cheers

Regarding the custom application, I am not creating it for accessing
reports. The interface is used for managing company activity and I need from
this application to open in certain cases reports. In other words I want to
give users the possibility of opening reports within the same interface they
use for all other work.
I did not know that I can specify the PDF in the URL but it would still not
be a valid solution for me if I cannot specify the credentials. I noticed
that when using the reporting from RS WEB interface, they somehow pass the
credentials through URL in some kind of an ecrypted way but I am not sure how
to do that.
Regading the differences in preview, I wanted to say that the HTML preview
in VS2005 is sometimes (for more complex reports not a simple table)
completely different from the HTML report obtained from RS WEB interface but
if from the RS WEB interface I export the report in PDF I get something
significantly closer to what I used to have in VS@.2005 HTML preview.
Thank you again for your input.

Thank you a lot for your input.
I used your code translated to VB and everything worked OK until the next
statement:
rs.SetExecutionParameters(parameters, "en-us");
where I am always getting a time-out error. I checked the report and from
the WEB interface it runs OK with the parameter value I am passing. I am not
sure how to further investigate what goes wrong at this step. Do you have any
idea what might be or should I check?
Thank you again.

You're welcome. Is you system/windows environment setup in some
language other than English? If so, this might be the problem. Also,
make sure that the parameters[0].Value = a legitimate value. Hope this
helps further.

Sr. Software Consultant|||It is true that while my workstation is set in EN-US the Reporting Services
server was set in Romanian. Initially I changed the "en-us" language code in
"ro" and I got the time-out error. Then, I changed server's language (at OS
level) into EN-US and changed back the language code to "en-us" and I got the
same error. I am not sure if the OS is the only repository for the language
but as far as I know at SQL Server or Reporting Services I did not see any
such setting. I am also not sure if there is a problem having the server set
in one language and the workstation retrieving the report set in a different
language. As far as I know there should not be any issue other than the fact
you see data formatted according to RS Server regional settings rather than
in your workstation settings. It is true that right now both workstation and
server are set in EN-US but I wonder if there is an issue the fact that SQL
Server was installed while the server regional setting was different.
The parameter value is just a string so it's value does not depends on
regional settings.
Thank you again,
Adrian

in vb (based on the FindRenderSave app, modified using the c# code above to
add parameters). It was on a en-us based server / pc setup, so it may not
help any.
Protected Sub Button1_Click1(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As
System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim ws As New rs.ReportingService2005
ws.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials

condition.Condition = ConditionEnum.Contains
condition.ConditionSpecified = True
condition.Name = "Name"
condition.Value = "My Report Name"
conditions = New SearchCondition(0) {}
conditions(0) = condition
Dim returnedItems As CatalogItem() = ws.FindItems("/",
BooleanOperatorEnum.Or, conditions)
Dim x As CatalogItem = returnedItems(0)
'Call the save for the report
SaveAs(x)
End Sub
Private Sub SaveAs(ByVal selItem As CatalogItem)
Dim rsExec As New ReportExecutionService
rsExec.Url =System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("ReportExecutionService")
rsExec.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
Dim fileName As String = Server.MapPath("") & "\export\" &
selItem.Name _

Case "EXCEL"
fileName = fileName & ".xls"
Case "PDF"
fileName = fileName & ".pdf"

Integrating Rdl to webapplication with parameter passing

<p>

Hi,

i was created rdl and deployed it rdl is working fine and asked parameter prompt and i gave the value report is generated in rdl.

and i was Integrated to Reportviewer in my web application all things are ok.

But how to set the parameter in reportviewer.

could any one help to me.

regards

kumar

</p>

this is easy

First it is necessary to ccreate aReportParameter object (be sure you have a reference toMicrosoft.Reporting.WebForms).The contructor takes two string parameters one for the Name and one forthe Value. A new parameter would look like the code below.

ReportParameter myReportParameter = new ReportParameter("Id",
Request.QueryString["Id"]);

Next, parameters on the ReportViewer are set using theSetParameters method. It takes an array of ReportParameter, so you would have syntax like the following.

MyReportViewer.ServerReport.SetParameters(
new ReportParmeter[] { myReportParameter });

Mr. Tamer,

How do I pass 2 or more parameters to Report ??

Thanks,

Kusno

|||

You welcomeSmile,

you can easily do this as the report parameters are list

ReportParameter(ReportParameterName, Value);

I.e.

string strTime = System.DateTime.Now.ToShortTimeString();

RptParameters[0] =
new Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportParameter("ReportParameterName",Value);
RptParameters[1]=
new Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportParameter("ReportParameterName",Value);

and so on

Yes, it works....Yes

Thanks a lot man.
