Internal Email subscription fail

I'm having an issue with subscriptions. I created a subscription to
email a report both to an external address and internal address. The
subscription worked fine (Mail sent to ... ) in RS. The outside
entity received the email, but the internal entity does not receive
the email. Is there some configuration I'm missing on the exchange
side in order to accept a connection from RS? Thanks

It sounds more like your Exchange Server is filtering out the
extension type (i.e., PDF, MHTML, etc) of the report attached to the
email. Also, I'm not sure what the 'from' email is set to from SSRS;
however, if it is different than what is expected by the Exchange
Server, it may flag it as Spam. Hope this helps.

Bob,
You don't need a hex editor; you use use DBCC PAGE to view the page
structures without going to all of this trouble. Syntax here:
http://www.sql-server-performance.co...ented_dbcc.asp
If you're really interested in this stuff, you should get a copy of Kalen
Delaney's _Inside SQL Server 2000_, which describes the structures in great
detail.

Interesting Maintenance Plan Problem

SQL Server 2005 - I created a maintenance plan to backup several
databases. The steps in the maintenance plan are very simple, first -
check database integrity, next reindex or reorganize the indexes, backup
the databases and finally remove backup files.
I set the schedule to begin at 12:05am and tested the process by
manually running (right-click on the job and start at step). The
process ran successfully, all steps.
That night, the process started at 12:05 and failed after the second
step with no indication why the process failed. I ran it manually and
it completed successfully. The following night the process failed after
the first step completed, again with no indication why the process
failed. Again, I ran the process manually and it completed all steps
successfully.
I modified the schedule to run at 12:30am instead - and all steps
completed successfully.
Does anybody have any ideas why the process would fail when scheduled to
run at 12:05, but not fail when scheduled to run at 12:30?
Jeff
Did something have the database in use?

There are no other scheduled jobs at that time, except for the
transaction log files that run every 15 minutes and take less than a
minute to run at that time (no users on the system at midnight).

Nothing there either - the job just stops. I even reviewed the default

I can schedule the process at 12:30am and leave it there, but I was
hoping somebody else had seen something like this. I will keep
researching to see if I can find anything.

Nothing there either - the job just stops. I even reviewed the default
trace file and did not find anything there.
I can schedule the process at 12:30am and leave it there, but I was
hoping somebody else had seen something like this. I will keep
researching to see if I can find anything.

Interbase to SQL Server 2000 Question

I've posted this question on a few InterBase/Firebird newsgroups but with no
response.
About 7 years ago, I created an InterBase application for a client using
InterBase 4.x. I haven't worked with InterBase since. They now want to
convert this to SQL Server. Actually, all we want to do is to convert the
tables and the data in the tables to SQL Server 2000. The other schema
objects won't get converted. I downloaded the latest version of InterBase
from Borland (V6.x or V7.0, don't recall which). When I attempted to open
the InterBase database, I get an error saying the on-disk structure is
unsupported. Could anyone offer a suggestion on what I can do?
Thanks very much.
Hi
Looks like they changed the format between these versions! If you don't have
a working system, then I guess that you may have to resort to somewhere like
ebay to get one! If you do have a working system, then you might be able to
connect from SQL Server via ODBC and use DTS to get the tables/data.

|||Amos,
I have had to do exactly this for a client. It's not too hard, but it is a
bit fiddly.
The on-disk formats are different, for 4.x and 7.x, so you can't just open
the files. What you have to do is to backup the Interbase 4.x database using
the utility in the 4.x installation, then restore it using the same utility
in the 7.x installation. The backed up file contains all the metadata so 7.x
can re-create it. The utility is called something like gbak, and all the
details are in the Interbase documentation.
Once you've got the data into Interbase you need a 3rd party ODBC driver to
get the data out. I used one of the free ones, forget which. I had to
REMOVE all the triggers from the tables before I could connect with the ODBC
driver though, whch was a pain as there were a lot of them. I eventually
figured out how to automate it, but it is OK to do manually.
If you want to contact me directly take the 'nospam' out of my e-mail

Interactive Sort in Matrix

I have a Matrix in a report - created like below. Each row has a different dataset and I need to make each Column to be sortable so they can click on the column header say "Summary of Accounts" and sort them and do that for each column header. So far I havent seen anything that looks promising that can do this. Is there away this can be done?

6 Columns and 14 Rows

--headers

Summary of Accounts No debts origBal AccrInter PaidDate CurrBal

Activity count() Sum() Sum() First() Sum()

phase count() Sum() Sum() First() Sum()

attorney etc etc

collection

The combination of Interactive Sort and Matrix are not good! I managed to get it working but only for row groups.|||I know they are not how about how did you do the row groups? If they can sort by row then fine that is good enough for me then!

interactive sort in group

hi,

i created a report using table with added group header and footer. i set a few columns at the table header for interactive sort. however, the sort doesn't work for thhe field that i place in the group header.

Is interactive sort supported in group header?

Thanks.

Yes, interactive sort is supported in group header. When you click on the sort in the group header, it just doesn't do anything? Can you attach your rdl so that I can see why it's not working for you?

- Fang

|||

thanks Fang for your reply. sorry if this seems silly. how do i attach the rdl file here?

thanks again

|||Looks like there is no way to attach a file here. Can you just post the XML in the thread?|||

hi Fang.. sorie... probably i should rephrase my question.

actually i have fields in my group header and place the labels for the respective fields at the table header. can i sort the fields in group header using the label in table header?

sorie for asking the wrong question.. thanks!

Interactice Sorting confusion!

Well I have a data set with the following fields

1) Territory

2) Product Category

3) Sub-Product Category

4) Total Sales

I created a report that is a List with a Nested Table

The List have the Territory Field (and have a grouping on Territory)

And the nested Table Have the other 3 fields Grouped By Product Category

The table group header have the product category fields

And the table details have the sub-category and Total Sales fields

Now to the problem, I have no problem adding interactive sort on the two fields in the table details rows.

But I cannot add an interactive sort to Territory Field in the list or the Product Category in the table group header.

Is this a limitation in interactive sort, they dont sort on fields used for grouping other fields !!!

I also couldn't really understand the interactive field options, the help doesn't really explain them clearly

What does the Options

1- Data Region or Grouping to Sort

2- Evaluate Sort Expression in this scope

How are they really used I dont get it? I tried many options hoping something will work for the territory or product category fields mentioned above, but nothing work!

I hope I was clear

I will try to be more precise I have the following grouping

Territory | Category | Sub Category | Sales

USA

Bike

Bike Mountain 100

Bike Racing 200

Toy

Toy Barbie 50

Toy He-Man 74

UK

Bike

Bike Mountain 100

Bike Racing 200

Toy

Toy Barbie 50

Toy He-Man 74

UAE

Bike

Bike Mountain 100

Bike Racing 200

Toy

Toy Barbie 50

Toy He-Man 74

Terriroty is actually in a text field in the list, where I have a nested table with the other fields group on category in the table group header

I have easily add interactive sort to the subcategory and sales table files, using the default values for the options

I cannot field the correct option combination to add interactive sort for the territory or category fields

Integrity job error

Hi folks,

I created a job to check the integrity of my databases every week using SQL Server Maintenance Plan Wizard.
The job is failing every time...
For tb_basico database it works fine, but with the other one (tb_cep) it doesn't work...

Does someone have an idea to solve this problem?

The message is:

After the job completes, you can ALTER DATABASE mydb SET MULTI_USER to allow the users back into the database.

Integrity Constraint Error on SQL Server column with no constraints

I have created a simple package to load an Excel Spreadsheet into a SQL Server table. There is a one to one relationship between the columns in the .xls file and the columns in the DB record. I am getting integrity constraint errors when I try to load all numeric data from the spreadsheet (defined as Category General in excel, not defined as numeric but consisting of all numeric characters) into a column defined as (nvarchar(20), not null) in SQL Server Management Studio. There are no constraints on the column.

I have been able to temporarily bypass the offending rows, but I do need to load them into SQL Server. The problem column has a mixture of data, two examples would be: N255, 168050. It's the 168050 value that's causing the Task to bomb. How can I get this loaded into my table ?

I am running the package from within MS Visual Studio 2005 Version 8, Excel is version 2003 (11.8120.8122) SP2

Thanks,

Chris

Try setting the extended property IMEX to 1 in the Excel Source properties. Search this forum for IMEX and you'll get plenty of answers.|||And make sure you don't have any empty values in the excel source. Your table is set to not accept NULLs, so make sure there are none going into it.|||

Ok, so I did a search of this forum and found the recommendation to add "IMEX=1; MAXROWSTOSCAN=0" to the Excel Connection manager connection string. So I hunted and pecked and found that if I displayed the properties on my excel connection manager, there was a property called Expressions with three dots next to it that if you clicked on would display a Property and an Expression column. I chose connection string for the Property and pasted the recommended string into the Expression. I tried with and without quotes, eliminated the ; MAXROWSTOSCAN=0 part

(IMEX=1), also tried IMEX==1 because that's what the ensuing error message recommended - All to no avail.

what am I missing ?

Thanks,

Chris

|||Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\test.xls;Extended Properties="Excel 8.0;HDR=YES;IMEX=1";

Your connection string would have to be similar to the above. Look at your existing ConnectionString property, copy it, and add IMEX=1 to the Extended Properties as I have done above.|||

Sorry to drag this out, but I had to add a Connection String Property to my Excel Connection Manager properties. When I bring up the Expressions dialog as I described above, all I see is a blank dialog box. Should I be using an Excel Connection manager or a modified OLE DB connection manager ? I have a text book that recommends using the latter for an excel file if you need finer control.

|||

You may use either one connection if you plan to set it only once. You do not need to use Expressions, change the ConnectionString property directly.

If you plan to edit/change the connection settings, than you might be better with pure OLE DB connection because the Excel wrapper might override the settings you manually put into the connection string.

Thanks,

Bob

|||

I directly edited the Connection string for my Excel Connection manager, adding IMEX=1; to what was there. The complete string is now:

Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=I:\Financials\Outlooksoft\Workbooks\Fact Table\SSIS_Source\OSOFAC01.xls;Extended Properties="EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES";IMEX=1;

I am unable to use the connection manager like that - I'm getting another error "Could not find Installable ISAM"

I assume HDR=YES means there is a header row in the spreadsheet, which there is in this case.

Thanks,

Chris

IMEX goes *INSIDE* the Extended Properties property as I've shown earlier.

....Extended Properties="EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES;IMEX=1";|||

I put the quote (") in the wrong place. I corrected that so my connection string is now:

Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=I:\Financials\Outlooksoft\Workbooks\Fact Table\SSIS_Source\OSOFAC01.xls;Extended Properties="EXCEL 8.0;HDR=YES;IMEX=1";

IT'S WORKING FINE NOW!

Thanks for all your help,

Chris

|||

Actually I had to run it a few more times before I got all the rows to load. The package was still skipping (Redirecting) some of the rows due to the SAME error on another column that had mixed format data just like the one that originally caused the problem. This other column also had both straight numeric and combination strings (ex: 84001, 57B42).

From what I gathered reading about this problem, it looks like Integration Services makes certain decisions about the metadata associated with the contents of Excel files based upon the first few rows of the input spreadsheet. With this in mind I moved the row containing the 57B42 value up closer to the top, so now instead of the first 10 rows having all numeric values in that column, there was a non-numeric value appearing early on in the mix.

When I tried to run the package after this change, It threw an error right at the beginning indicating there was a problem with the Excel Data Flow source. The error indicated that there was mismatched metadata between the Excel Source and the SQL Server OLE DB Destination. The error message also offered to fix the problem without my intervention. I did choose to allow this to happen. After that the package ran to completion and all 2034 rows in the spreadsheet loaded into the DB table.

I am just wondering how I should deal with this in the future. Do I actually have to be concerned with the order of the rows in my spreadsheet ? Why should it be a problem to load character data and apparent numeric data into an nvarchar field ?

Integrity Check From Maintenance Plan Fails - Error 22029

Hello,
I created a Maintenance plan and the only thing I have it do is perform an
Integrity Check on the database. It's been running successfully for 2 years.
I recently Added Replication to this server, having the data from this
server replicated onto a backup server. During that setup, I had to let
SQLServer Agent run as a different user than the system Administrator for
some reason. So I changed it to run as a different Windows User that has
Administrator privileges.
The command for the check is:
EXECUTE master.dbo.xp_sqlmaint N'-PlanID
D2A9902D-1F5F-4FCB-8819-62609F141FD5 -WriteHistory -CkDBRepair '
Now the Integrity Check won't run.
The user is set as a user on the Server with Admin privileges with Access to
the database in question.
Since I'm trying to let it do the minor repair, could it be that Agent
running as a different user doesn't get the exclusive access it needs?
Thanks for any help.

Integrating Reports with ASP page

HI,

I've created reports using VS2003 n sqlserver 2000.Now I need to view these reports from ASP page.Can anybody tell me how to integrate it with ASP .Can I use report viewer control?Thanks in advance.

May

May,

I have used iFrames in the past to drop an ASPX page inside an ASP. It is messy to have these two interact, but sometimes you are stuck with it.

If you want a seemless iFrame you can use the code below inside your ASP page:

<iframe src="test.aspx"framespacing="0" border="0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

You may also wish to set these:width="100%"marginheight="0"marginwidth="0"height="500" scrolling="yes"

As far as browser compatibility goes, beware of the scrollbar and how different browsers render scrollbars.

More reference: iFrame W3c spec

Thanks,

Chelsea

Thanks for the reply.
I've to show the report in a new window.There is a button on the asp page.On button click I'm passing the URL of the reportserver along with the parameter in the query string.But it is not working.I need the correct syntax for that as I'm new to ASP.
Please help me thanks in advance.Here is the part of the code:

sub ViewContact()document.frmContact.method="post" document.frmContact.target="_blank" document.frmContact.action="http://xp00025370/ReportServer?/TrinityRailSales/CallReport&iCall=1&rs:Command=Render"frmContact.submit()end sub <script>

Integrating Reporting Services 2005 in a custom application

I created in VS2005 a report with one parameter and I placed it into a folder
under Reporting Services and I can run it through RS WEB interface.
Now I want to run that report from a custom application (VB.NET 2005). I
know how to open that report in a browser in HTML (using the URL and passing
the parameter) but I want to open that report in PDF instead. I added RS as a
WEB Service to my application but how I am identifying the report and how I
pass the parameter and then how I ask for the PDF file this is what I don't
know. For simplicity let's assume the report name is Report1 and it is placed
in folder Folder1 and the requested parameter is Parameter1. Could someone
let me know how I am rendering that report and how I open the PDF file?
The second question would be about the credentials. I would prefer not
opening ReportingServices WEB server to anonymous access. But the application
I use to open a report is connecting remotely and I cannot use VPN to make it
log into the domain. What I would look for is if I can pass programmatically
the credentials for a pre-defined account (on WEB server). I saw that the
ReportingService object has a Credentials property and I found out how to
send the default credentials (System.NET.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials)
but as I said that workstation is outside my domain and I cannot use its
credentials.
I also have a third question somehow less important. I noticed a huge
difference between the preview in VS2005 and the one on WEB. I know that
there are 2 different previewers but I am not sure if I am not doing
something wrong. Strangely the PDF image looks much more accurate (compared
with VS2005 preview) than the HTML image obtained after deploying the report
on WEB.
Thanks anticipated for any hint.On Dec 2, 6:32 pm, Adrian <abcd...@.noemail.nospam> wrote:

This code should help. It's written in C#.NET 2005. Converting it to
VB.NET 2005 shouldn't be very difficult. You will be able to pass the
PDF document to a user outside the domain and/or combine this process
with a report viewer control to allow a user outside the domain to
view it and have it available as a PDF download. 'SSRSExecutionSvc'
below is what I called the web reference to: http://ServerX/reportserver/reportexecution2005.asmx
Byte[] result = null;
String strReportPath = "", strFormat = "", strDeviceInfo ="", strEncoding = "",
strMimeType = "", strExt = "", strSessionId = "",
strInvoicePath = "";
String strHistoryID = null;
String[] strStreamIDs = null;
SSRSExecutionSvc.ReportExecutionService rs = new
SSRSExecutionSvc.ReportExecutionService();
//Below user must have, at a minimum, Browser rights in
the Report Manager
rs.Credentials = new
System.Net.NetworkCredential("UserName", "Password", "DomainName");
rs.Url = "http://ServerX/reportserver/
ReportExecution2005.asmx";
// Render arguments
strReportPath = "/Folder1/Report1";
strFormat = "PDF";
strDeviceInfo = @."<DeviceInfo><Toolbar>False</Toolbar></
DeviceInfo>";
// Prepare report parameter.
SSRSExecutionSvc.ParameterValue[] parameters = new
SSRSExecutionSvc.ParameterValue[1];
parameters[0] = new SSRSExecutionSvc.ParameterValue();
parameters[0].Name = "Parameter1";
parameters[0].Value = OrderID.ToString();
SSRSExecutionSvc.Warning[] warnings = null;
SSRSExecutionSvc.ExecutionInfo execInfo = new
SSRSExecutionSvc.ExecutionInfo();
SSRSExecutionSvc.ExecutionHeader execHeader = new
SSRSExecutionSvc.ExecutionHeader();
rs.ExecutionHeaderValue = execHeader;
execInfo = rs.LoadReport(strReportPath, strHistoryID);
rs.SetExecutionParameters(parameters, "en-us");
strSessionId = rs.ExecutionHeaderValue.ExecutionID;
try
{
result = rs.Render(strFormat, strDeviceInfo, out
strExt, out strEncoding, out strMimeType, out warnings, out
strStreamIDs);
execInfo = rs.GetExecutionInfo();
}
catch (SoapException SoapEx)
{
return SoapEx.Detail.OuterXml.ToString();
}
// Write the Contents of the Invoice to a PDF Document.
try
{
FileStream stream = File.Create(("C:\\Report1.pdf"),
result.Length);
stream.Write(result, 0, result.Length);
stream.Close();
}
catch (Exception Ex)
{
return Ex.Message;
}
Hope this helps.

Sr. Software Consultant|||Hi,
Not sure why you want to create a custom app because if your
requirement is only to render the report in pdf then adding
"&rc:format=PDF" to the url should do the trick for you.
Anyways, if you want to use the web service , here is an msdn article
for consuming the RS web service.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa179578(SQL.80).aspx
With regards to credentials, if you are hosting RS on a web facing
server , you have a couple of choices - windows authentication or
forms authentication . Depending on your network set up and because of
the way RS security works, windows integrated authentication can get
very tricky .This article may give you an an insight
http://www.odetocode.com/Articles/216.aspx
If you want to use forms authentication, download the SQL Server 2005
samples and that has an example of how to integrate forms
authentication into your app. You can download the sample from here
http://codeplex.com/SqlServerSamples
With regards to your third question , "Strangely the PDF image looks
much more accurate (compared with VS2005 preview) than the HTML image
obtained after deploying the report on WEB. " . I am not sure why you
are comparing the pdf to an image . The pdf being generated by studio
and the one generated through the web interface should be alike.
Cheers

Regarding the custom application, I am not creating it for accessing
reports. The interface is used for managing company activity and I need from
this application to open in certain cases reports. In other words I want to
give users the possibility of opening reports within the same interface they
use for all other work.
I did not know that I can specify the PDF in the URL but it would still not
be a valid solution for me if I cannot specify the credentials. I noticed
that when using the reporting from RS WEB interface, they somehow pass the
credentials through URL in some kind of an ecrypted way but I am not sure how
to do that.
Regading the differences in preview, I wanted to say that the HTML preview
in VS2005 is sometimes (for more complex reports not a simple table)
completely different from the HTML report obtained from RS WEB interface but
if from the RS WEB interface I export the report in PDF I get something
significantly closer to what I used to have in VS@.2005 HTML preview.
Thank you again for your input.

Thank you a lot for your input.
I used your code translated to VB and everything worked OK until the next
statement:
rs.SetExecutionParameters(parameters, "en-us");
where I am always getting a time-out error. I checked the report and from
the WEB interface it runs OK with the parameter value I am passing. I am not
sure how to further investigate what goes wrong at this step. Do you have any
idea what might be or should I check?
Thank you again.

You're welcome. Is you system/windows environment setup in some
language other than English? If so, this might be the problem. Also,
make sure that the parameters[0].Value = a legitimate value. Hope this
helps further.

Sr. Software Consultant|||It is true that while my workstation is set in EN-US the Reporting Services
server was set in Romanian. Initially I changed the "en-us" language code in
"ro" and I got the time-out error. Then, I changed server's language (at OS
level) into EN-US and changed back the language code to "en-us" and I got the
same error. I am not sure if the OS is the only repository for the language
but as far as I know at SQL Server or Reporting Services I did not see any
such setting. I am also not sure if there is a problem having the server set
in one language and the workstation retrieving the report set in a different
language. As far as I know there should not be any issue other than the fact
you see data formatted according to RS Server regional settings rather than
in your workstation settings. It is true that right now both workstation and
server are set in EN-US but I wonder if there is an issue the fact that SQL
Server was installed while the server regional setting was different.
The parameter value is just a string so it's value does not depends on
regional settings.
Thank you again,
Adrian

in vb (based on the FindRenderSave app, modified using the c# code above to
add parameters). It was on a en-us based server / pc setup, so it may not
help any.
Protected Sub Button1_Click1(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As
System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Dim ws As New rs.ReportingService2005
ws.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
'Search for the report to use by name
Dim conditions() As SearchCondition
Dim condition As New SearchCondition()
condition.Condition = ConditionEnum.Contains
condition.ConditionSpecified = True
condition.Name = "Name"
condition.Value = "My Report Name"
conditions = New SearchCondition(0) {}
conditions(0) = condition
Dim returnedItems As CatalogItem() = ws.FindItems("/",
BooleanOperatorEnum.Or, conditions)
Dim x As CatalogItem = returnedItems(0)
'Call the save for the report
SaveAs(x)
End Sub
Private Sub SaveAs(ByVal selItem As CatalogItem)
Dim rsExec As New ReportExecutionService
rsExec.Url =System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("ReportExecutionService")
rsExec.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials
Dim fileName As String = Server.MapPath("") & "\export\" &
selItem.Name _
& " " & GetDateString()
Select Case Me.ExportFormatDropDownList.SelectedValue
Case "EXCEL"
fileName = fileName & ".xls"
Case "PDF"
fileName = fileName & ".pdf"
End Select
' Prepare Render arguments
Dim historyID As String = Nothing
Dim deviceInfo As String = Nothing
Dim format As String = Me.ExportFormatDropDownList.SelectedValue
Dim showHide As String = Nothing
Dim results() As [Byte]
Dim warnings As ReportExecution2005.Warning() = Nothing
Dim streamIDs As String() = Nothing
Dim encoding As String = String.Empty
Dim mimeType As String = String.Empty
Dim params(0) As ReportExecution2005.ParameterValue
params(0) = New ReportExecution2005.ParameterValue
params(0).Name = "myId"
params(0).Value = 1
Dim ei As ExecutionInfo = rsExec.LoadReport(selItem.Path, historyID)
Dim hdr As ReportExecution2005.ExecutionHeader = New
ReportExecution2005.ExecutionHeader
Dim sessionId = rsExec.ExecutionHeaderValue.ExecutionID
rsExec.SetExecutionParameters(params, "en-us")
'Exectute the report and save it into a file.
Try
results = rsExec.Render(format, deviceInfo, encoding, mimeType,
warnings, streamIDs)
' Create a file stream and write the report to it
Using stream As FileStream = File.OpenWrite(fileName)
stream.Write(results, 0, results.Length)
End Using
Catch exception As Exception
Throw exception
End Try
End Sub
