Internal Error / internal catalog exception

Hi,

I've read already every thread in this forum regarding this topic with no results.

SQLServer and the corresponding services are at actual update level. The reporting services worked for 4 months without this problem. Suddenly, most of the time all reports return an internal error (it is like 70-30 for internal error) not depending which render format is used.

The system logs (eventlog, iis) show no errors. The ExecutionLog of RS show rsInternalError.

Looking in the log files in RS log directory, there is following stacktrace:

w3wp!processing!1!05/11/2007-10:40:06:: a ASSERT: Assertion failed! Call stack:

I don't see any hint in stack trace, Maybe one of yours.

As it seems, after an iisreset the first rendering always works perfect. HD space is enough.

Any ideas?

Got it.

As the error occured not every time and not depending any actions or rules, we decided to check the hardware and their corresponding drivers.

For the AMD Opteron single core processors in a multi processor environment, we used the generic microsoft drivers. After changing these to the original AMD ones, it works perfectly again.

Why it occured suddenly without any update or reboot is still not solved, but it works now.

Intermittent Login failure at boot

I have a Windows Service middleware application that depends on SQL
Server. We are migrating from an existing Windows 2000 server/
SQLServer 2000 to Windows 2003 Web Edition and SQLServer Express. At
boot time and more often than not, the middleware application fails to
start and SQLServer reports a Failure Audit saying the Login failed
for the user 'SomeUser'. This is the account the middleware uses, it
is a SQLServer account and not a Windows account.
But once the machine is booted and I login to the server, I can start
the middleware application successfully using the Services control
panel. I'm assuming that despite the dependency of my middleware
service on the SQLServer service, SQLServer is not sufficiently
initialised to accept client connections at the point that my
middleware service tries to connect. I can't say whether this is
peculiar to SQLServer Express because to see if it also occurs with
SQLServer Standard 2005 I would need to reinstall and configure the
operating system and application software.
If there is no workaround for this, the only solution I can think of
(without going to Windows 2003 Standard and SQLServer 2005 Standard)
is to write another Windows Service to check whether or not my
middleware started successfully and to start it if it failed to start.
Any help with this problem would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Go through the SQL Server log to get a better idea if it's
just a timing issue...which I would guess it probably is.
You should see the login failure with a date time as well as
when the database the middleware uses is available, when SQL
is ready to accept client connections. You would also want
to check the state of the login failure to see the cause of
the failure.
But...going through the log should give you more information
to understand what's going on in your situation.

Intermittent Connection Issue - How to Monitor

We have a 3rd party application which uses a connection to a SQL
Server 2005 database. It intermittently loses connnection to the
database and displays an error. The vendor is playing hardball with
resolving the issues. What we would like to do is have a small
application that can run on the machine the client applilcation is
installed on and make connection checks and logs. This way if both
loose connection we can rule out the 3rd party software as being the
issue. However, if theirs looses connection and the monitor
application does not notice anything we can use that information as
leverage for dealing with the vendor.
Is there any such application out there that would do this?
Thanks in advance.
Try this tool:
http://www.paessler.com/ipcheck/download
It has a free version that can be use to check every 15 minutes.
Thank you

Intermittent connection error (with workaround)

Hi all,
I have a strange error when I try to connect to SqlServer from Bde
Administrator (and also with my Delphi program which uses the BDE) on
some computers (in this post I'll call this problematic computer
SERVER_A).
When I try to open a BDE alias which connects to the local SqlServer I
get (on 90 % of attempts) a "General Sql Error" Bde error 13059.
Sometimes (let's say 10% of attempts) it connects ok.
This is quite strange (it's not a password error) and I can't explain
this behavior.
I can connect (using Bde Administrator) with no errors from the same
computer (SERVER_A) to a SqlServer installed in another Pc (let's call
this computer PC_B) and I can connect (using Bde Administrator) with
no error from PC_B computer to the SqlServer installed on the
SERVER_A.
I use SqlServer security, the BDE uses ntwdblib.dll to connect (using
tcp/ip).
I've stopped all firewalls, proxies etc... but nothing helps.
The only thing that fixes the problem is to add a new route from
SERVER_A that goes out to a proxy instead of going to 127.0.0.1
address (the loopback address).
In other term if I add a new route in the SERVER_A pc for SERVER_A IP
address that goes out to a proxy with a metric that is less than the
127.0.0.1 one then all the connections are ok.
This is very strange: it seems a TCP-IP problem.....
Do you have any ideas about this strange behavior?
Thank you,
Bye, Rocco.
I have the same problem, BDE and Windows 2003 SP2.
I solved it temporarily by using the named pipes protocol in SQL
Server Client Configuration.
But I would like to solve it by continuing to use TCP/IP.
Perhaps a security problem in windows 2003 SP2.
I checked also with portqry, and the server listens to port 1433.
Any other ideas ?

Interesting problem with table/filesystem growth

Any body have any ideas on this one?
Have an Sqlserver 2000 instance with SP3a on it and had a
problem where we had multiple data files within the
primary filegroup. An end user was adding rows into the
table and received an out of space error on the data
component. Checking the properties on the files the auto
extend option had been turned off , which was fine in our
environment, however, checking the space used in each of
these files showed that there was plenty of space
available for use in all. (No, it wasnt the trans log that
gave grief), I allowed the autoextend on each file and got
over the problem for the table in the short term , (and
saw one of the files extend.)
This lead me to do some thinking about the way Sqlserver
handles the growth of tables on multiple files. The good
book says that Sqlserver will allocate in a round robin
fashion the data pages to a table, however this doesnt
seem to be the case. Also, How does the table what file it
is on. I found this in the sysindexes table and decoding
the first value (Contains fileid and page id and row
offset).
Thats fine, however the major problem is, if Sqlserver
doesnt do the round robin allocation of datapages like it
should, then are all your free space calcs on the file
allocation valid?
Any thoughts' Any stored procedures about to handle this'
cheers
MikeWe've had an experience in the past, where the disks seemed to get overused
and reported an error similar to (unable to allocate space). Unfortunately,
I cannot
remember the specifics. We've had a problem where the auto-extend conflicts
with
an insert.
With regard to the round robin filling, sql server will fill the files using
a proporitional
algorithm. Therefore if you fill one file then add another, the 2nd file
will get filled. If
you create 2 files at the same time, then you will observe that each file is
filled with the
same amount of data each time. In short a 20GB insert will put 10GB in each
file.

still leads to the problem where you think you should have
space available because you tally the total of all file
systems and unfortunately one is full!!! Kind of makes one
stop and think about what level should your space
statistcs be collected at and how you manage them!

|||Interesting,
still leads to the problem where you think you should have
space available because you tally the total of all file
systems and unfortunately one is full!!! Kind of makes one
stop and think about what level should your space
statistcs be collected at and how you manage them!

Interesting issue with Full Text Search

We are using SQL Server 2000 database (with sp3) and recently we faced
an interesting issue with full text search.
According to SQLServer help page
"AND | AND NOT | OR Specifies a logical operation between two contains
search conditions. When <contains_search_condition> contains
parenthesized groups, these parenthesized groups are evaluated first.
After evaluating parenthesized groups, these rules apply when using
these logical operators with contains search conditions".
Our "contains_search_condition" consists of a proximity_term and each
contains_search_condition is combined with logical OR operator.
When we execute each proximity term separately we are fetching correct
set of records. Here are the SQL statements:
select COUNT(*) from TABLE_NAME WHERE CONTAINS(COL_NAME, '"JOHN" NEAR
"JANE"') (this returns 20 records)
select COUNT(*) from TABLE_NAME WHERE CONTAINS(COL_NAME, '"JOHN" NEAR
"DOE"') (this returns 10 records)
If we join these records with an OR operator and pass them to a
CONTAINS clause, we are fetching records that are larger than the
summation
of records that correspond SQL statements given above. This really
can't happen. Here is the corresponding SQL statement:
select COUNT(*) from TABLE_NAME WHERE CONTAINS(COL_NAME, '(("JOHN"
NEAR "JANE") OR ("JOHN" NEAR "DOE"))') (this returns 80 records)

Furthermore, if I write the same statement in terms of two CONTAINS
statements with an OR operator, then I fetch correct number of records.
Corresponding SQL is:
select COUNT(*) from TABLE_NAME WHERE CONTAINS(COL_NAME, '("JOHN"
NEAR "JANE")')
OR contains(DOC_INFO, '("JOHN" NEAR "DOE")') (this returns 25
records)

Does anyone know if there is a bug in SQLServer 2000 Full Text Search?
I will appreciate if anbody can shed some
light into my problem"arikatla" <arikatla@.gmail.com> wrote in message

You should probably post this in microsoft.public.sqlserver.fulltext to get
a better answer. But I suggest you take the time first to create a repro
script which creates a table, inserts data, creates the FT indexes and then
runs a query to show the problem. If other people can reproduce what you're
seeing, you're more likely to get a response.

Intellisense..when?

This is one of the top requested feature for next version (or SP) of SQL Server. (http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback ) There si some third parity tools but light years away from Visual Studio intellisense. I have only one simple question based on this answer

This is a very popular feature request. We will be working with teams across Microsoft to determine how best to do this. The intellisense offered by 3rd party ISVs is not perfect from what I've seen. This is something we're considering for a future release.

Thanks for the feedback!

When we can expect this feauture? (next version of SQL Server , SP 2 I hope so, or SP3

Thank you

In the mean time I'm using SQL Prompt which works pretty well.

It looks like we're going to earn a "". It is not going to come in Service Pack 2 () or any service pack for SQL Server 2005 ().

There are 3rd party tools available. I heard there were many issues in Red Gate's SQL Prompt 2 that were addressed with SQL Prompt 3. I have not used it myself.

Due to the inherent nature of the T-SQL language, it is far more difficult to make intellisense work as well as it does with C# or Visual Basic. There are two teams at Microsoft looking to address the problem. One is in the SQL Server team, the other is in the Visual Studio team. We do not have any official commitments to what is going to be in the next release of SQL Server ("Katmai"). Once we firmly establish what is in the next release and what isn't, we'll make sure to inform the SQL Server community.

Integrating Reports with ASP page

HI,

I've created reports using VS2003 n sqlserver 2000.Now I need to view these reports from ASP page. Can anybody tell me how to integrate it with ASP .Can I use report viewer control? Thanks in advance.

May

May,

I have used iFrames in the past to drop an ASPX page inside an ASP. It is messy to have these two interact, but sometimes you are stuck with it.

If you want a seemless iFrame you can use the code below inside your ASP page:

<iframe src="test.aspx"framespacing="0" border="0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

You may also wish to set these:width="100%"marginheight="0"marginwidth="0"height="500" scrolling="yes"

As far as browser compatibility goes, beware of the scrollbar and how different browsers render scrollbars.

More reference: iFrame W3c spec

Thanks,

Chelsea

Thanks for the reply.
I've to show the report in a new window. There is a button on the asp page.On button click I'm passing the URL of the reportserver along with the parameter in the query string. But it is not working.I need the correct syntax for that as I'm new to ASP.
Please help me thanks in advance. Here is the part of the code:

sub ViewContact()document.frmContact.method="post" document.frmContact.target="_blank" document.frmContact.action="http://xp00025370/ReportServer?/TrinityRailSales/CallReport&iCall=1&rs:Command=Render"frmContact.submit()end sub <script>

sub ViewContact()

document.frmContact.method="post"

document.frmContact.target="_blank" document.frmContact.action="http://xp00025370/ReportServer?/TrinityRailSales/CallReport&iCall=1&rs:Command=Render" frmContact.submit()

</script>

<form name=frmContact>

<input type=button OnClick="ViewContact">

sub ViewContact()document.frmContact.method="post" document.frmContact.target="_blank" document.frmContact.action="http://xp00025370/ReportServer?/TrinityRailSales/CallReport&iCall=1&rs:Command=Render"frmContact.submit()end sub
