intermitent connection problem asp to sql2000

I have an asp page (w2003 IIS) which grabs a very small amount of data from
a table on our
sql server (sql2000).
Most of the time the page works fine, with no problems. However
intermitently it falls over with:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired
/MIS/Searches/main_search.asp, line 8
this is the connection and query which brings back about 300 records:
Dim MM_uLiveDatabase_STRING
MM_uLiveDatabase_STRING = "dsn=database;uid=username;pwd=password
Dim getID
Dim getID_numRows
Set getID = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
getID.ActiveConnection = MM_uLiveDatabase_STRING
getID.Source = "select fltf_value from caps_users left join
caps_user_filters on uflt_for_user = user_id inner join caps_filter_fields
on fltf_filter_flt = uflt_filter_flt where user_ref like '" +
Replace(getID__theUser, "'", "''") + "'"
getID.CursorType = 0
getID.CursorLocation = 2
getID.LockType = 1
getID.Open()
THis is rapidly becoming a major problem! Anyone got any ideas?

You'd want to start by monitoring for locking, blocking
issues in SQL Server when you experience the timeouts. You
can monitor for these issues using sp_who2, sp_lock and
querying master..sysprocesses.

Interesting Problem/Bug with Logos in the page header

Scenario:

I have a report with a logo in the page header.

This report has 2 parameters: 1) Date 2) Boolean to Show/Hide detail.

When I put in the date and show the report, everything is fine. If I then change the boolean parameter to show or hide the detail, the logo file cannot be found (Displays a red X)

If I export the report like this, the red X is rendered in the export. The logo is not there.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Anyone know how to resolve it?

Thanks!

BobP

This is a known bug. The fix will be included in the next release.

Interesting issue with Full Text Search

We are using SQL Server 2000 database (with sp3) and recently we faced
an interesting issue with full text search.
According to SQLServer help page
"AND | AND NOT | OR Specifies a logical operation between two contains
search conditions. When <contains_search_condition> contains
parenthesized groups, these parenthesized groups are evaluated first.
After evaluating parenthesized groups, these rules apply when using
these logical operators with contains search conditions".
Our "contains_search_condition" consists of a proximity_term and each
contains_search_condition is combined with logical OR operator.
When we execute each proximity term separately we are fetching correct
set of records. Here are the SQL statements:
select COUNT(*) from TABLE_NAME WHERE CONTAINS(COL_NAME, '"JOHN" NEAR
"JANE"') (this returns 20 records)
select COUNT(*) from TABLE_NAME WHERE CONTAINS(COL_NAME, '"JOHN" NEAR
"DOE"') (this returns 10 records)
If we join these records with an OR operator and pass them to a
CONTAINS clause, we are fetching records that are larger than the
summation
of records that correspond SQL statements given above. This really
can't happen. Here is the corresponding SQL statement:
select COUNT(*) from TABLE_NAME WHERE CONTAINS(COL_NAME, '(("JOHN"
NEAR "JANE") OR ("JOHN" NEAR "DOE"))') (this returns 80 records)

Furthermore, if I write the same statement in terms of two CONTAINS
statements with an OR operator, then I fetch correct number of records.
Corresponding SQL is:
select COUNT(*) from TABLE_NAME WHERE CONTAINS(COL_NAME, '("JOHN"
NEAR "JANE")')
OR contains(DOC_INFO, '("JOHN" NEAR "DOE")') (this returns 25
records)

Does anyone know if there is a bug in SQLServer 2000 Full Text Search?
I will appreciate if anbody can shed some
light into my problem"arikatla" <arikatla@.gmail.com> wrote in message

You should probably post this in microsoft.public.sqlserver.fulltext to get
a better answer. But I suggest you take the time first to create a repro
script which creates a table, inserts data, creates the FT indexes and then
runs a query to show the problem. If other people can reproduce what you're
seeing, you're more likely to get a response.

interesting case for "SQL Server does not exist or access denied." error

My connection string is :

server=localhost;Database=INFOSEC;Integrated Security=true

It works for the login page, but it does not work for the registration page, and give the "SQL Server does not exist or access denied." error.

Any IDEA?

You shouls check your connection string properly and make sure you are calling proper database for registration form.Otherwise can you give the code here.So i can findout the error.

InteractiveHeigt and 6.000 rows on first HTML page?

First the good news:
A Matrix receives around 55.000 Datarows and produces 1.300 pages of PDF.
This happens in:
- SQL-Query: 5 Seconds
- IIS rendering: 10 Seconds for the first HTML-page
- PDF export: 120 seconds
Really great product.
OK, now the problem:
When the data of a customer in the database is rendered with:
- this customer has around 6.000 rows in the matrix
- AND the first column in the Matrix is continuous
(that means: all other about 10 columns are subdata to the first column)
--> it happens the unexpected:
ALL the 6.000 rows appear on the first HTML-page
Changes in InteractiveHeight do not affect this HTML-Rendering on this first
page.
The InteractiveHeight works perfectly from the second page as expected, but
not on this first.
What happens:
Case 1 in IE (6 or 7):
- SQL-Query 5 Seconds
(sqlserv.exe goes up to 150 MB)
- IIS rendering: 10 seconds
(w3wp.exe goes up to 135 MB)
- IExplorer.exe runs for 60 seconds with 100% CPU-usage
(iexplorer.exe memory footprint 100 MB)
After this the first page appears and all is almost well.
Because of 6.000 rows in one IE-page, scrolling is worse than on an Intel
286, but exporting to PDF is no pain.
Case 2 the same in ReportViewerControl (Redistributable 2005):
- SQL-Query 5 Seconds as above
(sqlserv.exe goes up to 150 MB)
- IIS rendering: indefinitely <-- = the problem
w3wp.exe consumes indefinitely 250 MB
- ReportViewer-Control message after 10 minutes:
"The request was aborted: The operation has timed out."
I can shut down the ReportViewer-Control WinApp, IIS continues with 250 MB
and 100% CPU. Poor Windows Enterpise Server 2003R2
----
Questions:
A: How do I achieve pagebreaks for the first 6.000 rows in the Matrix
despite the first column being continuous?
(There is a bug in the HTML-Render-Engine that doesn't accept
InteractiveHeight in this case.)
B: Please supply me with the newest ReportViewer.exe Redistributable March
2007
(it's ready, but will only be distributed to the public in one week
because of the need to write a KB-article)
We need to know, if this will remedy our problem!
(There is probably a bug in the SOAP implementation or the render-engine
of the old ReportViewer-Control.)
Thanks in advance, HenryHello Henry,
I will answer your second question first.
We did not have the new Redistributable package for public now. I will
provide you the download link once I got the information from the internal
team.
As for the first question,
I would like to get the report definition so that I can provide further
assistance on this.
Could you please send the report to me?
To reach me, please remove the ONLINE in my display email address.

any news about the thousands of rows in the first HTML page?
Greetings, Henry|||Hi Wei Lu,
new Info:
Test with the new Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable 2005 SP1,

unfortunately did NOT alleviate the problem.
Greetings, Henry|||Hello Henry,
Since I did not have the datasource, I could not reproduce this issue.
My suggestion is that you may increase the page Size of the report.
The page size of the report is the InteractiveSize plus the Margins. So
since your interactivesize is 29.7cm * 21cm, and your margin setting is 1cm
top and 0.5cm bottom, could you please increase your Page Size to 29.7cm *
22.5cm to have a try?

Wei Lu

thanks for the tip with the page size, but it didn't work.
I've made lots of test with varying page sizes and different combinations of
ReportViewer-Control Versions (042=original DLLs, 762=VSSP1 and 817=Report
Viewer Distr.2005 SP1) and SQL-Server 2005-Versions (SP1 and SP2).
No way.
I've compiled a test-RDL with Access-DB that I've sent you by e-mail.
Did you receive it?
Yours Henry|||Hello Herry,
I reproduce this issue that the HTML render will cost a long time and only
one page are generated.
Currently, I found a workaround is that you may try to add a group
expression in the matrix1_intCustomerID group.
=Int((RowNumber(nothing)-1)/30)
And I use the following in the statement
select * from t0blhbu1502 order by intCustomerID,
intInvoiceNo,DtmInvoiceDate,intOrderNo
Then the report will only show 30 records in one page. You could modify the
setting to allow more records.
Hope this helps!

thank you very much for this information.
Weeks ago I already tried this but couldn't achieve what I'd have liked and
abandoned it.
I thought it'd exist some shortcut or official way.
Since there's not, I returned to dig in this grouping direction.
In our case we use a matrix inside a list with subtotals, so your proposal
didn't work.
After another lots of hours fighting with variable scope problems, I figured
it finally out, how to get it done.
Put the following Expression to group on it in the first matrix column:
=code.setRowAggregate()
The associated function:
Function setRowAggregate() As Integer
Static Dim a As Integer = 0
Static Dim b As Integer = 1
If a < 100 Then
a += 1
Else
a = 1
b += 1
End If
Return b
End Function
and yapadapadu it is finally working.

Integrating Reports with ASP page

HI,

I've created reports using VS2003 n sqlserver 2000.Now I need to view these reports from ASP page.Can anybody tell me how to integrate it with ASP .Can I use report viewer control?Thanks in advance.

May

May,

I have used iFrames in the past to drop an ASPX page inside an ASP. It is messy to have these two interact, but sometimes you are stuck with it.

If you want a seemless iFrame you can use the code below inside your ASP page:

<iframe src="test.aspx"framespacing="0" border="0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

You may also wish to set these:width="100%"marginheight="0"marginwidth="0"height="500" scrolling="yes"

As far as browser compatibility goes, beware of the scrollbar and how different browsers render scrollbars.

More reference: iFrame W3c spec

Thanks,

Chelsea

Thanks for the reply.
I've to show the report in a new window.There is a button on the asp page.On button click I'm passing the URL of the reportserver along with the parameter in the query string.But it is not working.I need the correct syntax for that as I'm new to ASP.
Please help me thanks in advance.Here is the part of the code:

sub ViewContact()document.frmContact.method="post" document.frmContact.target="_blank" document.frmContact.action="http://xp00025370/ReportServer?/TrinityRailSales/CallReport&iCall=1&rs:Command=Render"frmContact.submit()end sub <script>
